David RobertiDavid Roberti was President pro Tempore or leader of the California Legislature for 27 years, its youngest member at the age of 26 when first elected to office in 1966. After retirement from elected to office, Roberti later became a member of the California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB) from 1998 to 2002. Roberti was the chief Senate negotiator for AB939 the governing legislation for waste management in California. He authored, among other pieces of environmental legislation, laws reducing the generation of hazardous waste in California and setting deadlines for their implementation. As a member of the CIWMB, Roberti was instrumental in crafting compromise proposals which the Board submitted to the Legislature leading to legislation which for the first time recognized conversation of waste management and appropriation funds for its development. Today, Roberti is a lawyer in the firm of Roberti Jensen, LLP in Los Angeles.
Kay Martin Ph.D.Dr. Martin recently retired as the Director of the Ventura County Environmental and Energy Resources Department, which implements the County's AB939 programs, and also has lead responsibility for advancing the County's comprehensive bioenergy platform. Over the past several years, Dr. Martin has become a leading proponent for the commercialization of conversion technologies and new product markets for biomass fractions of the municipal waste stream, including renewable energy, transportation fuels, industrial chemicals, and a variety of other petroleum replacement products. She is currently a member of the Executive Board of the California Biomass Collaborative and, nationally, sits on the Board of Directors for the New Uses Council and on the Advisory Board of the Biobased Manufacturers Association.
Mike Mohajer P.EBefore his recent retirement, Mike was a senior waste management official for the county of Los Angeles in charge of their environmental programs including waste management activities. Mike has over 30 years of experience in the fields of environmental protection and waste management working as a design engineer, planner, regulator, consulting engineer, and as a county manager. Mike is widely regarded as a leader in the solid waste Management field, and someone who has had significant influence in the direction of solid waste management during the past decade. Mike is a Registered Civil Engineer in the State of California. He is a Director of the Southern California Waste Management Forum, an appointee of the County of Los Angeles Board of Supervisors on the Los Angeles County Integrated Waste Management Task Force and its Conversion Technologies Committee, a member of the Los Angeles County Solid Waste Facilities Hearing Board, and is currently serving as the chair of the Solid Waste Association of North America's Legislative Task Force, California Chapters.
